20 Home Remedies For Bad Breath

Bad breath or Halitosis is a foul odor emanating from the mouth. Poor oral hygiene, dry mouth, gum diseases, eating food with a strong odor, sinus conditions, build up of bacteria in your mouth (between teeth or tongue), stress are the causes of bad breath.

Home remedies are a cheap and effective way to treat gingivitis. If you begin treatment at an early stage, home remedies are usually able to clear gingivitis. It’s essential to treat the plaque before it becomes tartar.

Bad breath is a simple and common problem but not a disease and can be prevented easily by following these simple home remedies.


Tips to Reduce Bad Breath:

In addition to home remedies, follow these tips for effective results and to prevent bad breath completely.
  • Brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day, and also floss, also brush your tongue.
  • Do not wear dentures overnight and clean them thoroughly after every use.
  • Suck sugarless mints which will stimulate saliva production.
  • Don’t skip your meals as it helps the bacteria growth.
  • Quit smoking and other tobacco products as this will increases the risk of getting gum diseases.
  • Check out the food which causes bad breath and try to avoid them.
  • Try some stress relief activities like yoga, meditation, deep breathes, etc.
  • Visit dentist at least once a year.



Remedies to kill the bad breath



Oil pulling


Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Research found that using coconut oil for oil pulling significantly reduces plaque and signs of gingivitis.

Coconut oil pulling may also: whiten teeth, freshen breath, relieve headaches and tension, clear sinuses

Procedures 
·       Put 1 to 2 tsp. of fractionated, or liquid, coconut oil into your mouth.
·       Swish the oil around your mouth for 20 to 30 minutes. Be careful not to let the oil touch the back of your throat.
·       Spit the oil out after the time is up.
·       Rinse your mouth with water.
·       Spit the water out.
·       Drink a full glass of water.
·       Brush your teeth.
Oil pulling is safe to practice. Be careful not to swallow the liquid, as it will contain toxins and bacteria pulled from the tissue in your mouth.
It’s okay to swish the oil around for a smaller amount of time until you’re able to tolerate 20 minutes of swishing. You may also find it helpful to swish for two shorter sessions per day.



Tree Oil And Vodka

How to make this natural antiseptic mouthwash

Add tea tree oil or peppermint oil in warm water and then mix them. After this mix sugar in the solution now shake it well before use and then rinse well. This is perfect natural homemade mouthwash which is antibacterial and antiseptic.




Baking Soda




Baking soda balances pH level in mouth and makes it hard for bacteria to fester. It also removes strains on teeth. However it is also corrosive on the teeth. So make sure that don’t use it too often.

Procedure
  • Brush your teeth normally and rinse.
  • Now brush your teeth with a little baking soda.
  • Thoroughly wash your mouth and repeat regularly.
  • Or you can simply use the toothpaste which contains baking soda as an ingredient. You can use baking soda alone as a tooth powder to brush.
Alternatively
  • Mix a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water to dissolve completely.

Cinnamon



Cinnamon contains cinnamic aldehyde which cures bad breath and reduces the bacteria in saliva.
Procedure
 Cinnamon And Water
  • Add a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to a cup of water.
  • Boil this for about 5 – 10 minutes.
  • You can also add some bay leaves and cardamom.
  • Strain the solution and use to rinse the mouth.
  • Repeat twice a day to get rid of bad breath.
Alternatively

Cinnamon And Honey

Honey has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties which kill the bacteria and lemon has strong refreshing citrus property which reduces the bad breath problem.
  • Add half teaspoon of cinnamon, juice of 2 lemons, 1 ½ teaspoon of honey and a cup of warm water to a bottle which has tight fitting lid.
  • Shake well and keep aside for few hours.
  • Use 2 tablespoons to gargle for a minute.
  • Repeat regularly.



Arimedadi Oil Pulling



Arimedadi oil has been shown to inhibit the growth of plaque and improve symptoms of gingivitis.
Arimedadi oil may also strengthen teeth and gums, reduce swelling, heal mouth sores and relieve pain

Procedures 
·       Put 1 to 2 tsp. of oil into your mouth.
·       Swish the oil around your mouth for 20 to 30 minutes. Be careful not to let the oil touch the back of your throat.

Parsley



Parsley kills the bacteria with its chlorophyll (anti-bacterial property). It also helps to stimulate the saliva flow.

Procedure
  • Dip a handful of fresh parsley leaves in vinegar.
  • Chew them thoroughly for a minute or two.
  • Repeat this regularly to get rid of bad breath.
Alternatively
  • Mix 2 cups of water with a few springs of chopped parsley.
  • Boil it for few minutes by adding a few whole cloves.
  • Turn off the heat and allow it to cool.
  • Strain and use this liquid as mouthwash.
  • Gargle with this liquid regularly after taking each meal.
Note :you  shouldn’t use Arimedadi oil if you have sinusitis.




Vodka / Brandy


Requirements 
·       Water : 1 glass
·       Lemon oil : 1 drop
·       peppermint oil : 1 drop
·       Vodka/Brandy : 1 spoon

Procedures

This mouthwash will increase the circulation of blood in your gums and hence it makes it stronger which avoids bacteria attack and avoids the problems of gingivitis. First mix all together and shake well. Now you have to use it the same way you use other mouthwashes. 

Rinse your mouth and then spit it out. Great way to make homemade antibacterial mouthwash.




Salt And Baking Soda


·       Ingredients required
  •   Baking soda : half spoon
  • Salt : half spoon
  • water : 1 Cup

Procedures   

You can prepare this mouthwash in minutes and can take it along with you anywhere. Because you just need salt and baking soda. Mix baking soda and salt with water and use it after brushing the teeth. Rinse your mouth well and you will see your teeth shining.

Lemon Juice And Water



  •  Ingredients require
  • Warm water : 1 glass
  •  Lemon juice : 1 lemon

Procedures
 

Simple and effective. Take 1 lemon and squeeze it into 1 glass of warm water and rinse your mouth and then spit it out and soon you will see your teeth shining and bacteria free. It makes your gum healthier.




Tea Tree Oil Mouthwash


Tea tree oil mouthwash can significantly reduce gingival bleeding.

Procedures 
·       Add up to 3 drops of tea tree oil to a cup of warm water.
·       Swish the solution in your mouth for up to 30 seconds.
·       Spit out the solution.
·       Repeat 2 to 3 times per day.

You may also add a drop of tea tree oil to your toothpaste when brushing your teeth.
When trying tea tree oil for the first time, use a highly diluted amount.


Guava leaf mouthwash


 Several studies have found the antibacterial and antimicrobial properties of guava leaf mouthwash to have a positive effect on controlling plaque.

Guava leaf mouthwash may also reduce gum inflammation , relieve pain and freshen breath.
Procedures
·       Crush 5 to 6 tender guava leaves with a mortar and pestle.
·       Add the crushed leaves to 1 cup of boiling water.
·       Simmer for 15 minutes.
·       Allow the solution to cool, and add a small amount of salt.
·       Swish the lukewarm mouthwash in your mouth for up to 30 seconds.
·       Spit out the solution.
·       Repeat 2 to 3 times per day.



Fennel


Fennel acts as natural anti-microbial and other properties which prevents bad breath. Fennel seeds helps to resolve digestive problems, which is one of the main causes for bad breath. It also provides fresh aromatic scent.

Procedures
  • Chew a teaspoon of fennel seeds after eating food with strong odors.
  • It freshen breath and stimulates saliva production in mouth.
  • Mix this with other aromatic spices like cardamom, cloves, etc. for effective results.
  • Do this regularly.
Alternatively
  • Crush a teaspoon of fennel seeds.
  • Add a cup of boiling water and steep for 5 – 10 minutes.
  • Strain the tea and drink it by adding honey or milk or any sweetener as per your preferences.

Clove Oil And Brandy


Requirements


  • Warm water: 1 glass
  •  clove oil : 2 drops
  •  Vodka /Brandy: 1 spoon

This natural mouthwash is awesome for pain relief and swelling. Recipe is simple. Mix all ingredients and keep them in mouth for a while and then spit them out.


Turmeric Gel Application




Turmeric gel can effectively prevent plaque and gingivitis because its anti-inflammatory properties.
Turmeric is also antimicrobial and anti-fungal. It can help to heal bleeding and reddening of the gums.

You may use turmeric or curcuma gel as a treatment..

To apply turmeric gel:
  • Brush your teeth
  • Rinse thoroughly.
  • Apply the gel to your gums.
  • Let the gel sit for 10 minutes.
  • Swish water around your mouth to collect all of the gel.
  • Spit the water out.
  • Repeat 2 times a day.

Aloe Vera Mouthwash



Research found that aloe vera was as effective as chlorhexidine in reducing plaque and gingivitis. Both methods significantly reduced symptoms.

Unlike other mouthwash options, aloe vera juice doesn’t need to be diluted. Before use, make sure the juice is 100 percent pure.

Procedures
·       Swish the juice in your mouth for 30 seconds.
·       Spit out the solution.
·       Repeat 2 to 3 times per day.
Note : You shouldn’t use this mouthwash if you’ve ever had an allergic reaction to aloe vera.




Sage Leaves And Salt

Requirements 
  •  Boiled water : 1 cup
  • age leaves
  • Sea salt : 2 spoon

Procedures

First make a cup of tea with sage leaves than add boiling water into the tea and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. Than strain the tea and now add sea salt into it and rinse your mouth well and then spit it out.



Lemongrass Oil Mouthwash


In one 2015 study, lemongrass oil was found to be more effective than traditional chlorhexidine mouthwash at reducing plaque and gingivitis levels.

Procedures
·       Dilute 2 to 3 drops of lemongrass essential oil in a cup of water.
·       Swish the solution in your mouth for up to 30 seconds.
·       Spit out the solution.
·       Repeat 2 to 3 times per day.
Lemongrass oil is generally safe to use, but it’s very potent. Always start with a highly diluted mixture so that it doesn’t cause further irritation.


 
Fenugreek


Fenugreek increases the production of saliva in your mouth.

Procedures
  • Boil a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in a cup of water.
  • Allow it to simmer for about 15 – 20 minutes.
  • Strain and drink regularly.
